What you'll learn
- How the AI-generated timeline works
- How to edit phases and milestones
- How the timeline connects to your proposal
The timeline view
The Timeline tab in the proposal sidebar displays a visual representation of your project plan. The AI generates this automatically during the Scoping stage, breaking the project into logical phases with estimated durations.
Phases
Each phase represents a distinct stage of the project. A typical proposal might include:
- Discovery — initial research, requirements gathering, and planning
- Design — wireframes, mockups, and design iterations
- Development — building the core deliverables
- Testing — quality assurance and revisions
- Launch — deployment, handoff, and documentation
Each phase shows:
- Name — a descriptive label
- Duration — estimated time (e.g., "1 week", "2 weeks")
- Position — where it falls in the sequence
Phases are displayed in chronological order, giving both you and your client a clear picture of how the project unfolds.
Milestones
Milestones mark key checkpoints within the timeline. They typically align with deliverables, review points, or payment stages. Examples include:
- Design approval
- Beta delivery
- Final launch
- Project closeout
Editing the timeline
You can customize the timeline after generation:
- Edit phase names — click on any phase name to rename it
- Adjust durations — update the estimated time for any phase
- Reorder phases — drag phases to rearrange the sequence
- Add phases — click Add Phase to insert a new one
- Remove phases — delete phases that don't apply to the project
Align your timeline phases with your pricing line items. When clients see that each phase maps to specific deliverables and costs, it builds confidence in your plan.
Timeline in the proposal
The timeline data feeds into the proposal text. The AI references phases and durations in the proposal body, so when you adjust the timeline, the corresponding sections of the proposal stay consistent.
The timeline is a planning tool, not a Gantt chart. It shows sequential phases and estimated durations, but does not include calendar dates or resource assignments.
Total project duration
The total duration is calculated by summing all phase durations. This appears both in the timeline view and in the proposal text, giving your client a clear expectation for the overall engagement.
