What you'll learn
- How to use the interactive pricing calculator
- How to edit line items and toggle estimates
- Available pricing models
The pricing calculator
The Pricing tab in the proposal sidebar contains an interactive calculator that the AI pre-fills during generation. You have full control to adjust every number before sharing the proposal.
Line items
Each line item includes:
- Description — what the work item is (e.g., "Homepage design", "API integration")
- Quantity — number of units (hours, pages, deliverables, etc.)
- Rate — price per unit
- Subtotal — automatically calculated from quantity and rate
Click any field to edit it directly. The total at the bottom updates instantly as you make changes.
Add and remove rows
- Click Add Item below the table to insert a new blank row
- Click the delete icon on any row to remove it
- Drag rows to reorder them
Group related items together. For example, keep all design tasks in one section and development tasks in another. This makes the pricing easier for clients to understand.
Estimate ranges
The calculator supports three estimate levels:
- Low — optimistic estimate assuming everything goes smoothly
- Mid — realistic estimate based on typical project conditions
- High — conservative estimate accounting for complexity and unknowns
Toggle between Low, Mid, and High using the buttons above the pricing table. The AI generates all three ranges automatically. Each level adjusts the quantities and rates across all line items.
When you export or share your proposal, it uses whichever estimate level is currently selected. Most freelancers present the Mid estimate and mention the range in conversation.
Pricing models
Choose the pricing model that fits the project using the selector above the calculator:
- Hourly — line items priced by estimated hours at your hourly rate
- Fixed price — flat fees per deliverable, regardless of hours
- Retainer — recurring monthly fees for ongoing work
- Value-based — pricing tied to the value or outcome delivered, not time spent
Switching the pricing model restructures the line items to match the new format. Your default model is set during onboarding, but you can override it per proposal.
How pricing flows into the proposal
The pricing table data is referenced in the proposal text. When you edit line items, the totals mentioned in the proposal body stay in sync. If you change the pricing model, the relevant sections of the proposal text update to match.
